Wobbles

Don’t Fall Down!

Wobbles are part and parcel of weight loss. It is a word I will use frequently. But what exactly is a wobble? And how do you cope when they smack you in the face?

Slight Wobbles

What Is A Wobble?

Wobbles are part and parcel of the weight loss process. Nobody is perfect. A wobble is when things go wrong. You’ll find yourself hitting wobble after wobble. Some minor, some massive but they will hamper the process however big or small. Coping with them is another thing altogether but it can be done and you do get used to them.

There was an ever-so-slight wobble yesterday.  This was a relatively mild wobble. I contemplated whether to bother reporting or not.  However, as I constantly stipulate, the small matters are what make a big difference. Like Wednesday, I didn’t have too many calories during the day so naturally was hungry whence I arrived back at HQ after a long day deal dealing with truck drivers. Winter can be tough for a variety of reasons – bad weather, Christmas and darkness to name a few.

Wobbles, me, November 2023.

My poor wife is still suffering post-tooth extraction swelling so when I got back to HQ there were only lentils cooked.  The first point of change is nowadays I can get home from work and root around and not eat anything and everything I find without even thinking.  I am methodical in approach.  I rooted around the freezer and found some chicken meatballs we got from IKEA not so long back.

Bad Food Choice

Causing Wobbles

There are a million things you can blame. It’s all too easy to pinpoint the complexities of life. This is even harder when you’re hopelessly addicted to the wrong foods.

My first error was cooking them in the microwave.  I’m not a massive fan in the first place and did fall into the pitfall of heating them for convenience.  8 minutes in the microwave or 15-20 in the air fryer is not all that big a difference.  Arriving home to a similar scenario the night before, I put chips in the air fryer and they took 20 minutes.

I never looked at the labelling, but these meatballs are probably not the healthiest thing in the world, nutrition-wise.  I counted out 20 (around 500 calories) and placed them in the microwave for 8 minutes.  Then add sweetcorn and lentils and heat for a further 2 minutes plus a couple of dollops of full-fat mayo.  Quite a few calories but I was a little short of calories.

Screaming Stomach

Error Of Ways

I ate the food and then settled down to some farting about on the laptop as usual.  I’ve not gone near the television all week as for me, watching TV is a food magnet.  When your mind goes onto other things, it becomes surprisingly easy to block thoughts of food and binge eating out. But, as I pottered, my stomach started screaming.

One thing very few of us seem to do is listen to our bodies.  This is not easy and takes time, patience and practise.  Normally, when I relax on the laptop after dinner I barely think about food, such is my body getting used to this new way of life.  My stomach was nagging me.  Another part of my evening routine is to have herbal tea with Truvia.  I got up to make the brew.

dreaded biscuits, not good for wobbles.

As the kettle boiled, I flung the cupboard where the goodies are stored open in an aggressive like manner I’ve not experienced for a while.  We bought biscuits last Saturday, and neither of us has touched them since.  I grabbed one coconut and two sugar-free chocolate biscuits and ate them in the manner I used to eat.  Without thinking just wolfing them down.

I made my tea and carried on with my evening as if nothing had happened.  I’d not even eaten all my dinner because quite frankly I didn’t enjoy it at all.  Despite having enough calories in the dinner, there was no fulfilment, no enjoyment and this is where the problem lay. This new way of lifestyle is a learning curve every day and I am fully embracing it.

In doubt? Drink tea to curb wobbles!

Stop! Think! Action!

Handling A Crisis

It can be very hard to spot a wobble and sometimes the moment has gone before you can address the problem. Spotting the problem is half the battle. And when wobbles do happen, brush off the dust and carry on regardless.
