Continued Early Success!

Fantastic Feeling

Success is fantastic and it’s lovely to be writing about success. Weigh Day #5! I finally got around to this week’s weigh-in update during the latter part of the evening. Been busy doing other stuff all day. That matters not one whit. Although I half-heartedly ran a blog called Free Range from 2009 till early this year, I never put much effort in.

Since starting Change Your Way, I’m learning as I trundle along, spending more time farting about working on the look and design than the actual art of writing! I’m plotting and planning all sorts of content and working on new ideas and how things work etc. I’ve found running a website my food replacement and I’m loving it! The learning never ends! So, for now, there’ll be two updates a week. The important one being Saturday weigh day of course. As you can see, this has been an extremely good week.

After last weigh-in and the slight wobble I reported midweek, things improved. I slightly changed my diet. I’ve been consuming Slimfast shakes since I started this. To be frank, I wouldn’t recommend them as a meal replacement as advertised but they have their use. I’ve been drinking them a couple of times at work. They’re very tasty and with some leftover dinner, I had enough to keep me going through the working day. Undoubtedly, the keto ones are better but made with milk, not water as stipulated on the packet. I found them utterly vile made with water. They are also double the price so I’d switched to the cheaper ones.

Slight Tweaking Of Diet

Trying New Things

However, when the last batch ran out, I decided to try something new. This is what our weekly Zoom meetings keep telling us! After Rouladegate dampened both my spirit and mental health at the start of the week, I decided to try three meals of around 600 calories a day. I’ve changed MyNetDiary to fewer calories (by stating my exercise as sedentary). We had five dinners of Hello Fresh delivered thanks to a money-off voucher. The five meals cost a reasonable £15 as opposed to the normal £41. We’ve had them before and enjoyed them but complained about how small the portions are. Not this time! Whilst it’s hard to get dinner and a lunch out of one meal, today’s offering did because the meal was very high in calories so we kept portions tiny.

I ordered the meals and wasn’t paying attention to the finer details such as calories! What a pilchard! I really should leave these things to my long-suffering wife, Larice! 200 grams of the meal was 520 calories! As I type, I’ve only had 1500 calories today which is about my bare minimum. Am trying to have a few really good days, and tighten my grip. Not much exercise as Larice walked Bowie solo. My steps were mostly from wandering around the supermarket! I have upped my steps this week though.

Change Of Habit

Try To Stick With The Plan

I cannot believe how I’ve changed my ways at weekends. Saturday night was my worst night for snacking and consuming large quantities of liquor. Yet here I sit, listening to the tremendous new album from roots reggae legend Burning Spear, having eaten three meals and 1500 calories. This is the way forward for me, to try and stick with a three-meal plan and have 1500-2000 calories a day, no matter how much exercise I do. It will be a little tougher but it makes me feel a whole heap better. Not always easy, of course, but the way to go in achieving success.

Larice had a good week as well losing 0.8 kilograms (1.5 pounds) so we are both embracing this new lifestyle. I ate no more excess sugar after the infamous roulade. Looking at the Christmas stuff (chocolates, biscuits, chocolates, more chocolates, snacks, more biscuits, more ruddy chocolate etc.) did not appeal to me one jot. Never did I think with December fast approaching, that I would ever be so turned off by the thought of the many bad things we are encouraged to eat during the Yuletide (and beyond!) season!

Six Kilos Gone

Only Fifty-One To Go!

Well, I made it to weigh day #5 and showing little signs of cracking! Since I’d lost my first six kilos (almost but not quite a stone!), the initial thought was to celebrate my success. I am still off alcohol but it was tempting. I know it will do nothing for me. It’s too early. The on-offer Jack Daniels was really tempting! I don’t think I’m ready to fully embrace alcohol again. We are having drinks out with work (always a legendary piss-up of the highest order) pencilled in for 13th February. If I can manage to get through Christmas alcohol-free then this might be a good target to resume alcohol consumption. Or I could just never drink again, who knows?

I don’t think I’ve disclosed my target but I’ll reveal now it’s 80 kg. That is the weight I should be to have a healthy BMI. I don’t have a target but various sources on the web have said this is achievable by the beginning of 2025. As much as I think targets can be useful, I am not thinking that far ahead but taking things on a week-to-week basis.

Since this is the last weigh-in of the month, I’m going to post a full picture of me. Funny because I think I am looking slimmer but have such a long way to go. On the other hand, I think the way I’m doing this is making me feel fitter and feel so much better.

Summary

Weigh Day #5 has been a success! Delighted losing just over a kilo. I’ve learned that sugar is not for me and I can keep my calorie intake down to less than 2000 a day. For how long I don’t know but the challenge and determination is what’s keeping me going. The longer I eat better, the less I feel tempted to go back to old ways. I’m gobsmacked at how I don’t even care for all those nasty things I used to love. And that was only just over a month ago! Onwards to next week’s weigh day and hopefully more success!
